Softball: Berean Christian Upsets Clear Lake to Advance to NCS DIV Championship

Eagles will play Cloverdale at Heather Farms on Saturday

Berean Christian is headed to the North Coast Section Division IV championship.

The Eagles took an early 3-run lead against host Clear Lake on Wednesday and hung on for a 4-2 win behind a brilliant performance by senior pitcher Jessie Griffith.

Griffith scattered six hits in the complete-game victory and allowed just one earned run. She was also 1 for 3 at the plate to help her cause.

Kayla Mashburn was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and Alex McCullough came through with two hits a run and an RBI for Berean.

The third-seeded Eagles will play fourth-seeded Cloverdale on Saturday at Heather Farms at a time yet to be determined. 

After receiving a first-round bye, Berean beat No. 11 Marin Catholic in the quarterfinals before having to make the 240-mile roundtrip trek to Clear Lake for the semifinals.

Cloverdale upset top-seeded St. Patrick/St. Vincent 7-3 in the other semifinal.
