Walnut Creek Author Publishes Her First Novel

'The Passing Storm' by Emily Rennie is a ghost story/ mystery set in Texas ranch country, aimed for 8-12-year-old readers.

Walnut Creek resident Emily Rennie has published her first novel, The Passing Storm, a ghost story and mystery "set against the backdrop of hot and hazy Texas ranch country," according to the book's publicist.

The self-published novel "will give young readers ages 8-12 chills on a hot summer's day," said the publicist, Jana Williams, as Anna and her younger sister travel to her grandmother's ranch and uncover a family secret. The Passing Storm is based in part on the author's experiences spending in summers in Texas.

Rennie herself has a career in marketing communications and plays on a women's ice hockey team. She is married with two young sons, and the family loves grabbing lunch at Morucci's Si Mangia Bene or a bag full of books at Barnes & Noble in Walnut Creek.
