Job Finding Tip #5 Employers need you more than you need them. REALLY

Remember that scene in the movie Oliver when the hungry orphan asks the mean  kitchen server “Please sir, may I have some more?” Well, that’s how most of us go to interviews, bowl in hand, starving, and begging for an opportunity. The truth is that employers need you more than you need them.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics we are soon to experience an employee shortage thanks to slower population growth, exiting baby boomers combined with an increase in product growth. Any experienced HR professional or business owner will confess that even when there is a surplus of employees, finding great workers is always challenging.

So your job in any interview is to tell potential employers why you are an excellent employee. Communicate your skills. Have a great elevator pitch. Create a positive professional profile. Answer traditional and behavioral interview questions with confidence. Understand how you are uniquely designed to be the best person for the job. AND, have your own questions ready to ask the interviewer. Make sure the environment your interviewing for is a good one. Meet your potential supervisor and co-workers. Do your due-diligence and research the employer's reputation. Ask yourself if you can see yourself coming to this job every day.
