County Looking For Volunteers To Help Plant 16,000 Native Plants This Weekend

County flood control district is seeking 200 volunteers for the Saturday project in north Concord

Contra Costa County Flood Control District officials are looking for volunteers to help plant 16,000 native plants in northern Concord this weekend.

The project will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Clayton Valley Drain off Solano Avenue.

Three types of native plants will be planted -- field sedge, Santa Barbara sedge and wild rye grass.

Flood control district officials want to see if a large quantity of native plants can fight off invasive non-native species.

Volunteers are asked to sign up on this website. They should wear clothes that can get dirty. Long pants and closed-toed shoes are recommended. So are gloves and a water bottle.

A barbecue lunch will be provided free of charge.
