The Week Ahead: Recipe Tasting, A Chorus Line, The Shellies

Here are some of the meetings and events happening this week in the Walnut Creek area

On Monday evening, the Walnut Creek School District board of education will hold its regular meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the school district offices, 960 Ygnacio Valley Road.

On the agenda are reports from the superintendent, board members and employee associations.

On Tuesday morning, a "hiring event" will be held with a chance to meet hiring managers at Bay Area companies.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at the Embassy Suites, 1345 Treat Blvd.

The gathering is sponsored by JPL Talent.

On Tuesday evening, the author of "The Fat Chance Cookbook" will hold a book signing and recipe tasting.

The event with author Cindy Gershen begins at 5 p.m. at the Sunrise Bistro & Catering, 1559 Botelho Ave.

Gershen is also the owner of Sunrise Bistro.

Also on Tuesday evening, the Walnut Creek City Council will hold a special meeting.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1666 N. Main St.

On the agenda is re-appointments to various city commissions.

On Thursday evening, a class will be held on owning and managing rental property.

The course is sponsored by the Acalanes Union High School District Adult Education department.

The class begins at 7 p.m. at Del Valle Education Center, 1963 Tice Valley Blvd.

On Friday morning, a class for senior drivers will be conducted by the California Highway Patrol.

The "Age Well Drive Smart" course is from 10 a.m. to noon in the Oak View Room at the Walnut Creek Library, 1644 N. Broadway.

The course will cover rules of the road and age-related physical changes that affect driving, among other topics.

On Friday evening, a local production of "A Chorus Line" begins a two-week run.

The Friday performance begins at 8 p.m. at Las Lomas High School Theatre Performing Arts Center, 1460 S. Main St.

The performance is put on by the Diablo Theatre Company's STARS 2000. The shows run until Jan. 25.

On Saturday night, the 35th annual Shellie Awards will be held.

The festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Hofmann Theatre at the Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Drive.

The annual awards ceremony honors the best in stage productions in Walnut Creek in 2013.
