The Weekender: Christmas Carol Reading, Diablo Ballet Amid Pianos, Santa With The Farmers

Some of the events happening this weekend in the Walnut Creek area

As you plan your weekend, here are some events happening in Walnut Creek from Thursday night to Saturday night.

On Thursday evening, a Toys For Tots drive will be held at a downtown sports bar.

The event begins at 5 p.m. at Blu42, 1251 Arroyo Way. The drive is hosted by KSFO Radio.

Also on Thursday evening, the stage production of "A Christmas Carol" continues at the Lesher Center for the Arts.

The performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday as well as 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on  Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The show closes after the Sunday afternoon performance.

On Friday evening, the Diablo Ballet will provide an evening of dance for the holidays.

The performance begins at 7 p.m. at Steinway Piano Gallery, 1605 Bonanza St.

Besides the holiday dances, there will also be food, wine, punch and cookies.

Also on Friday evening, a community reading of Charles Dickens' novel "A Christmas Carol will be held.

Two readings of the classic holiday story are held at the Civic Park Community Center in downtown Walnut Creek.

They're from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. On both evenings, the entire book will be read aloud by members of the audience.

Also on Friday evening, the Mountain Shadow Film Society will host its first movie showing.

The film "Joyeux Noel" will be shown at 7:30 p.m. in the Oak View Room at the Walnut Creek Library, 1644 N. Broadway.

On Saturday morning, Santa Claus will visit the Diablo Valley Farmers Market.

The market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mitchell Drive and North Wiget Lane in the Shadelands office complex.

On Saturday evening, an improv group will unleash a holiday-related performance.

"Santa, We've Been Bad" will be performed by Ready Or Not Improv beginning at 8:15 p.m. at the Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Drive.
