The Weekender: Singing Tarzan, Crystal Fair, Mountain Astronomy

Some that events and activities happening this weekend in the Walnut Creek area

As you plan for the weekend, here are some of the things happening from Thursday night to Sunday night in Walnut Creek.

First, the pumpkin patch at the Shadelands Ranch on Ygnacio Valley Road is now open if you want to get an early start on your Halloween decorations.

Besides pumpkins, the patch near the Encina Grande Shopping Center has a petting zoo and a hay bale playground.

On Friday evening, "Tarzan -- The Stage Musical" will open at 8 p.m. at the Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Drive.

There will also be performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday as well as 2 p.m. on Sunday.

On Saturday morning, the Walnut Creek Police Department will hold its Second Saturday Spotlight.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at City Hall.

The purpose is for the public to meet the police department's men and women and find out more about how they do their job.

On Saturday afternoon, the Great Contra Costa Crystal Fair will be held  at Civic Park Community Center, 1375 Civic Drive.

The fair begins at 1 p.m. It will also be held on Sunday.

More than 35 vendors with beads, crystals, minerals and jewelry will be on hand.

On Saturday evening, see the stars and a lot more at an astronomy program on Mount Diablo.

The event is sponsored by the Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society. It begins at 6 p.m. at the Juniper Campground parking lot on the mountain.

On Sunday, the weekly Walnut Creek Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on North Locust Street.

On Sunday evening, a walk will be held at 6 p.m. in Civic Park, 1375 Civic Drive, to raise money for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.

The money raised will toward research and treatment for digestive diseases.
