Adri Frick, Neighbor

I moved to Martinez in 1999 after growing up in nearby Concord and attending College Park High. I am a member of the Martinez Chamber and own a yoga studio previously on the border of Mtz and PHill but now off Marina Vista at Ferry called "Type A Yoga."

I first took yoga at DVC in 2003 because I needed a unit of PE and it sounded easy. It completely changed my life! Because I am not what people sometimes think of when they think "yoga," I decided to create a space for everyday folks who may be turned off by gym yoga or other studio environments we affectionately refer to as "granola." Anyone can do yoga and sometimes it is just a matter of finding the right style or instructor!

I have been teaching in the Martinez community in one form or another for many years, so you may have seen me around. I substitute taught at Martinez Early Childhood Center for the summer of 2004, volunteered in Barbara Duvall's Vicente Martinez High School English in 2005, and taught an after-school chess program to kids at local schools including John Swett, John Muir, and Morello Park from 2004-2008. I also taught local adults at Heald College in Concord from 2008-2010. 

My business, Type A Yoga, started in Martinez with kids and adult classes at ATA Martial Arts, First Congregational Church, and the Boys and Girls Club, and the full-scale studio I have today would not have been possible without the support of these organizations! In addition, the Martinez Chamber has been a huge help to me, and I really want to support my local community!
