Bicyclist Injured On Mount Diablo

Woman was hurt while participating in the Fast Freddie Gran Fondo event

A bicyclist was injured Saturday morning when she lost control and crashed while riding down Mount Diablo, according to a story in the Contra Costa Times.

The 30-year-old woman was coming down North Gate Road just below the junction with South Gate Road about 10:40 a.m. when her bike slid out from under her and she went down the side of the mountain.

Fire district officials said she was in and out of consciousness and had no recollection of how she got on the mountain. She may have suffered a concussion and a broken clavicle, according to the Times.

The injured cyclist was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center. Her condition wasn't known Saturday evening.

The woman was participating in the Fast Freddie Gran Fondo, a fundraising that had begun at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley.
