New Police Chief Tom Chaplin To Be Sworn In Tuesday

Ceremony at 2 pm Tuesday, July 16 at the Lesher Center for the Performing Arts, followed by a reception.


Meet Walnut Creek Police Chief Tom Chaplin at a swearing in ceremony scheduled for 2 pm on Tuesday, July 16th at the Lesher Center for the Performing Arts.

A public reception will follow.

“Tom has extensive background in all aspects of police work and law enforcement,” City Manager Ken Nordhoff when his appointment was announced in June.

Chaplin is a 23-year law enforcement veteran. He has been on the job since July 8.

Prior to his appointment here he was Commander with the Citrus Heights Police Department. He joined that department in 2006 as a lieutenant and worked in several divisions. Among other credits, he helped establish that department’s Juvenile Diversion and Education Program and Youth and Family Services Unit. He also founded the Citrus Heights Police Activities League and has served as its president. 

Prior to joining Citrus Heights Chaplin was a special agent in charge for the California Department of Justice and served 11 years with the Sacramento Police Department in assignments ranging from Neighborhood Police Officer to undercover narcotics detective. 

“I am very excited to become a member of the Walnut Creek community," Chaplin said at the time of his appointment. "I am honored to serve as police chief for this highly respected police department.”

He will be paid $188,400 a year.
