Pic of the Day: New Structure Blocking Driver's View of Mount Diablo

Patch users have noticed a new tower at the Highway 24 and I-680 interchange. What is it? Where did it come from? And why aren't we ignoring it and paying attention to the road?

It's a familiar and beautiful view for drivers rounding Highway 24 — the peak of Mount Diablo, rising above the freeway. But what's that big tower on the corner at the Interstate 680 interchange?

"It's obstructing what used to be a stunning view of Mt. Diablo," said a driver in an email to Walnut Creek Patch. Commenters on the Walnut Creek Patch Facebook page said that "it's a terrible eyesore" and "hideous." But one commenter pointed out — "Shouldn't drivers be watching the road not Mt. Diablo?"
