The Art Is Outdoors at the Annual Bancroft Garden Gallery

Most art galleries are indoors. But in Walnut Creek, at least one gallery shows off the talents and visions of artists with a backdrop every bit as spectacular as the great outdoors. Because, well, it is the great outdoors.

The Ruth Bancroft Garden is preparing for its annual outdoor garden gallery event. A preview party will be held on June 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., where the $65 per person ticket gets you champagne, a peek at the artwork, and a chance to speak with the artists themselves. If you’re a member of the Bancroft Garden, the ticket is $60.

Opening weekend is June 15 and 126, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and this is where you get the chance to enjoy the art work, bring a picnic (try that at SFMOMA), meet the artists and gaze on sculptures framed by world-class flora and fauna. If you’re a dad and you come on June 16 (Father’s Day), you get free admission, which is every bit as cool as the tie you’ll probably get with breakfast.

All of the artwork is for sale, with prices ranging from $60 to $50,000. And, by attending, you’ll be able to see if a particular work of art will look good in your own garden. For a list of featured artists, please visit: www.ruthbancroftgarden.org. The show closes on July 13.
