The Week Ahead: Animals For Children, Halloween Bashes

Some of the meetings and events happening this week in Walnut Creek

On Monday morning, a special animal encounter event will be held for children at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum, 1931 First Ave.

The "Meet Animals of the Night" begins at 10 a.m.

It features arts, crafts and education about nocturnal creatures.

On Monday evening, the Walnut Creek School District board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the school district offices, 960 Ygnacio Valley Road.

On the agenda is a public hearing on a proposal from the Walnut Creek Teachers Association to the district for the 2013-2014 school year.

On Wednesday morning, the Lindsay Wildlife Museum will host a seminar for children on reptiles and amphibians.

The four-week class is held on four consecutive Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. 

The emphasis is teaching children the differences between reptiles and amphibians and introducing them to some of the animals. Cost is $36.

On Thursday evening, a Halloween bash sponsored by the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce will be held.

The event is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Third Work Place, located at Treat Boulevard and Jones Road near the Pleasant Hill BART station.

It'll feature food, prizes and a costume contest.

Please note, the event is an exclusive get-together for Chamber members.

Also on Thursday evening, there will be trick or treating for children at Broadway Plaza.

The celebration is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at participating stores.

Also on Thursday evening, a Halloween-themed night will be held at the Pyramid Alehouse, 1410 Locust St.

The Halloween Spooktacular begins at 5:30 p.m. a photo booth, music, dancing and a costume contest.
