Thousands Start Their Thanksgiving Day At Turkey Trot

Here's some photos from before and during the race taken by Walnut Creek Patch's editor

About 7,000 people ran off some calories before Thanksgiving dinner in downtown Walnut Creek on Thursday morning.

The 21st annual Forma Gym Turkey Trot hit the road at 8 a.m., starting and finishing at Civic Park.

Serious runners as well as people in turkey costumes and families with strollers participated in the 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer runs.

The race was officially started by Congressman Eric Swalwell of Dublin and Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti.

Race directors said they had 6,200 pre-race sign-ups and added another 800 or so on race day. That's about 1,000 more than participated in last year's event.

The race raises funds for local public schools as well as the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.
