Five Best Places to Smooch in and Around Walnut Creek

Here are the best places in and around town to also hold hands, declare you're "in like" and even pop the big question.

1.    Civic Park Gazebo
1375 Civic Drive at North Broadway

Take a step back in time at the Gazebo. This beautiful white wooden structure is the perfect spot for a little Valentine romance with your sweetie. A popular place for weddings, the Gazebo is also, apparently, quite the hot spot for wedding proposals. But you don’t need a ring in your pocket to enjoy its quaint charm day or night.

2.    Top of Mt. Diablo

With a peak of 3,850 feet, it’s hard not to get a little swept away by the gorgeous top of Mt. Diablo. With sweeping views of the Sierras and, on a clear day, even the shark-infested Farallon Islands, Mt. Diablo offers a majestic location for a little romance. And with the chilly winds that tend to blow around its peak, you have an extra excuse to snuggle up.

3. Herschell Spillman Merry-Go-Round in Tilden Park
Tilden Park
Wildcat Canyon Road and Grizzly Peak Boulevard
Berkeley, CA 94708

Admit it, it’s probably been a while since you’ve been on a carousel. Me too. And yet, the moment I rode the antique Herschell Spillman Merry-go-Round at Tilden Park and that tinny music started playing and the zebras and lions started going around and around, I was transported back in time and couldn’t help but smile. And what better place for a little clandestine smooch than on the back of a wooden horse?

4.    Row Boats on the Lafayette Reservoir
3849 Mount Diablo Blvd.
Lafayette, CA 94549
(925) 284-9669

Take to the water on a rowboat or peddle boat on the beautiful Lafayette Reservoir. You and your loved one can spend a leisurely afternoon just floating around this stunning little spot, admiring the views of the hills and the occasional heron perched among the reeds. There is a $6 daily entrance fee. Short term (metered) parking is $.50 per 1/2 hour with a 2-hour maximum. Open year-round during daylight hours.

5)    Va de Vi
1511 Mount Diablo Blvd.
Walnut Creek, CA 94595

You didn’t think I’d forget about cocktails did you? For the ultimate in intimate, sophisticated, romantic venues, make a date at Walnut Creek’s own Chef Arnold Pulido brings his A-game every night with delicious small-plate savories. Try a few or, for the more adventurous, try a Wine Flight tasting menu. Sit at the bar, try a new varietal and let the romance begin!
