Batten Down The Hatches — It's Blustery

If you've got a digital photo of a limb that's crashed down, send it to Patch. Thanks.

My screen window with the wonky latch catches a gust every once in awhile and whangs against the glass window. Bang! The cat jumps.

It's windy out there.

The National Weather Service is forecasting winds of 40 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph through Friday.

Considering the potential for local damage, it's a good time to have emergency contacts available.

    •    Walnut Creek police can be reached at the business line, (925) 943-5844. Police can track down responders from Public Services. Of course, if it's an emergency (imminent threat to life or property) call 911 at any time.
    •    For downed tree limbs, during business hours call the city Public Services Department at (925) 943-5854 and staff can contact tree crews to respond. During non-business hours, call the business line of the police department, (925) 943-5844. Again, if it's an emergency (imminent threat to life or property) call 911 at any time.
    •    Power outages should be reported to (800) 743-5002. PG&E is available at (800) 743-5000.

Keep a flashlight handy. Get extra batteries if you have time.

And if you see a tree limb that dropped on a BMW, and you have the means, take a digital picture and upload it to this story. Or email it to lance.howland@patch.com. Please include a location.
