Some of the people with ties to Walnut Creek who passed away recently
Howard Cohen: A resident of Walnut Creek, Cohen was a teacher, counselor and administrator for both public and private schools. He was a spiritual leader for Temple Beth Hillel in Richmond. Cohen died on June 26 at the age of 61.
Martin Deutsch: A resident of Walnut Creek, Deutsch was a German Holocaust survivor. He worked at men's clothing stores before he retired in 1990. He died June 19 at the age of 98.
Marie MacDonnell Roberts: A resident of Walnut Creek, Roberts was an illustrator and artist. Her paintings appeared in galleries across the United States. Her book, "The Artist's Design: Probing the Hidden Order" is still in print. Roberts died May 16 at the age of 97.
Richard Joe "Cavo" Martinez: A resident of Concord, Martinez was a bartender for the past five years at the Marriott in Walnut Creek. He was also a drummer in a number of Bay Area bands as well as a member of the Concord Moose Lodge. Martinez died on July 1 at the age of 53.
