Bike-Mounted Deputy: 'We're Able to Sneak Up on Crime'

Learning how to bumping up and down concrete stairs while pursuing a bad guy, Paul Schwind has been going through the paces this week.

The Contra Costa County sheriff's deputy is being training to deploy his police bike as he patrols around Contra Costa Centre, the transit village in unincorporated Walnut Creek. He also takes the occasional spin down the Iron Horse Regional Trail to keep an eye on things there.

"We're able to sneak up on crime," Schwind said.
