Burglars Smash Hole in Jewelers' Back Wall

Sunday, August 12

Par for stargazers! A group of meteor shower watchers were told to quiet down on the third fairway at at 12:09 a.m., according to a report from Walnut Creek police.

Smashed through back wall. AZM Jewelers at Broadway Plaza was burglarized overnight. Two men gained access to the store by smashing a hole through the rear wall. Seventy watches and other miscellaneous items were reported stolen. WCPD on Facebook posted a photo of one suspect. Based on this and other photos, police said, the suspect appears to be a thin white male with a slight goatee. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, jeans and black tennis shoes with white soles. The suspects were associated with a large rental truck.

Shall not steal. An empty cracked open safe was found on the sidewalk in front of St. Mary’s Church on Mount Diablo Boulevard.

Lions, tigers, bears, teenagers, oh my! A caller phoned police about a male wearing an animal mask and acting “strangely” on the 1800 block of Olympic Boulevard. Officers asked a group of five males to leave the area at 1:39 p.m.

'Breaking Bad,' Walnut Creek episode. Police checked on a “chemical smell” on the 100 block of West Holly Drive at 2:51 p.m. They determined it was just lawn/weed pesticides in a backyard shed.

Monday, August 13

Teenage wasteland. A group of kids used a busted up, non-running car to skateboard on at Heather Farm Park last night. Several callers thought the car was stolen due to the damage. Looking forward to seeing the “Rest in peace Roxy” video that was made. Yes, Creek Diva is a skateboarding fan.

Locked out. A mother accidentally locked her keys and her baby in a SUV that was parked on Jones Road this morning. AAA responded to the call.

Busted. A woman was arrested on fraud and burglary charges after she allegedly attempted to cash a fraudulent check at Check 1 on Civic Drive.

Tuesday, August 14

Stolen property. Two men were arrested on Beacon Ridge Lane on charges of being in possession of stolen property at 9:56 a.m.

Catalytic converter. A catalytic converter was stolen from a Toyota 4Runner overnight on Loch Lane. The suspect might be driving a white 1990s Lexus. A separate caller phoned police to report an attempted theft of another catalytic converter nearby on Oak Grove Road.

Stinky smash. A rear window was smashed and, of all things, a dirty diaper bag was stolen from a vehicle on the 2600 block of Oak Road.
