Mount Diablo Fire Revives Debate Over Cattle Grazing, Control Burns

What do you think? Should cattle grazing and control burns be revived on the mountain to prevent large fires?

The fire that scorched 3,100 acres on Mount Diablo last month has renewed debate over whether cattle grazing and control burns should return to the state parkland, according to a story in the Contra Costa Times.

Cattle grazing on the mountain ended 24 years ago and control burns were stopped 15 years ago, the Times reported.

Now, some local groups and city leaders are questioning whether those practices should be revived to prevent another large fire on the mountain in the future.

The California Cattlemen's Association is drawing up a proposal to present to state officials to resume and expand cattle grazing in some state parks, including Mount Diablo.

What do you think? Should cattle grazing and control burns be allowed to return?
