People are learning it's not good to buy alcohol for minors in Walnut Creek

Previous Shoulder Tap operations have led to people being arrested for furnishing alcohol or tobacco products to minors

The word may be getting out that Walnut Creek police will bust you if you buy alcohol for minors.

On Saturday evening, the department's Community Policing Team conducted one of its Shoulder Tap Operations. Under the program, minors under the direct supervision of a peace officer stand outside a liquor or convenience store and ask patrons to buy them alcohol. The minors indicate in some way that they are underage and cannot purchase the alcohol.

Previous operations have  resulted in arrests or citations to people for furnishing alcohol to a minor, being drunk in public, or  furnishing tobacco products to a minor, said Officer David Rangel.

No arrests were made Saturday, leading one of the decoys to say: “The word is getting around that WCPD is cracking down on people giving alcohol to juveniles.”
