UPDATE: Rescuers Pull Body From Car in Contra Costa Canal

The report came in this morning that a vehicle with someone inside went into the water along the canal near Pittsburg.

Emergency responders have pulled a man's body from a car that went into the Contra Costa Canal in Pittsburg this morning, aContra Costa County Fire Protection District inspector said. 

The fire district received a report around 9 a.m. of a car that went into the water near West Leland and Golf Club roads, fire officials said. 

Rescuers worked to disentangle the man from the submerged vehicle and attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, fire Inspector Lisa Martinez said. 

Martinez said she did not know the man's age and identity. 

A sheriff's dive team searched the canal for other possible victims but has confirmed there are none, Martinez said. 

Martinez said crews were in the process of pulling the vehicle from the canal as of 11 a.m. 

Pittsburg police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Emergency responders are attempting to rescue a person inside a car submerged in the Contra Costa Canal in Pittsburg this morning, fire officials said. 

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District received a report around 9 a.m. of a car that went into the water near West Leland and Golf Club roads, according to fire Capt. Robert Marshall. 

A sheriff's dive team has been called to the scene and fire and sheriff's personnel are working to rescue a person inside the car, fire Inspector Lisa Martinez said.

Martinez said she did not know the person's condition.

No other victims are believed to be in the canal, she said.
