January 26 all-day business event offers experts’ perspectives on the regional and national economic and political landscape

“The Supreme Court and Its Impact on You,” will be the keynote topic on Thursday, January 26, when Nina Totenberg, National Public Radio’s award-winning legal affairs correspondent, addresses the evening audience at Contra Costa USA (CCUSA) 2012, Contra Costa County’s premier business event. Totenberg’s reports air regularly on NPR’s critically acclaimed newsmagazines, All Things Considered, Morning Edition and Weekend Edition.

Luncheon keynoter is Mark Baldassare, president and CEO of the Public Policy Institute of California, a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank dedicated to informing and improving public policy in California through independent, objective, nonpartisan research. Baldassare’s topic will be “The 2012 Election Year and California’s Future.”

The 26th annual CCUSA, presented by the Contra Costa Council and Chevron, offers an all-day program focusing on both the regional and national economic and political landscape. Held at the Hilton Concord, the event opens at 8 a.m. on January 26 with registration, exhibits and networking, followed by presentations and lunch. The program adjourns at 2 p.m. and reconvenes at 5:30 p.m. for a reception and dinner at 7 p.m. Evening emcee is Ann Notarangelo, CBS 5′s Eyewitness News Weekend Edition anchor.

CCUSA’s morning program will be kicked off by John King, San Francisco Chronicle’s urban design critic, who will share his views on the urban landscape in “A Vision for the Bay Area.” The first morning panel, “Sustainable Communities Strategy for the Bay Area,” will feature Amy Worth, vice chair, Metropolitan Planning Commission; Paul Campos, senior vice president, governmental affairs and general counsel, Building Industry Association; Catherine Kutsuris, director, County Costa County Department of Conservation and Development; with Andrew Sabey, vice president, events, Contra Costa Council, serving as moderator.

A second morning panel, “Balanced and Sustainable Growth in Contra Costa County: A Path Forward,” will include Kevin Klowden, director of the California Center and managing economist for the Milken Institute; Gary Craft, Craft Consulting; Bill Lindsay, Richmond city manager; and Ken Nordhoff, Walnut Creek city manager.
