The Walnut Creek Police Association has announced a late endorsement of Justin Wedel for City Council.
One of its original endorsees, incumbent Council Member Kish Rajan announced last month he would not pursue re-election because had taken a job in Sacramento as director of the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development.
Wedel is added to Barry Grove and incumbent Bob Simmons in the association's endorsement list with three seats available in the Nov. 6 election.

The trails I saw at you tube, while bigger than vapor trails, were still very puny compared to the…Read More banner cloud formations I saw this, banners stretching straight from East to West (or vice versa) from one horizon to the other. May guess is that they were over 500 feet wide, and I'm still inclined to think the straight-line winds that made the derecho in the East pushed backwards a straight banner of visible water vapor (ie, clouds). Compare the physics to the x-rays that are pushed backwards when matter is sucked into the spiral of a black hole, a new discovery this week.

STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
The library café opened in September 2012 with a Rental Commencement Date of October 1, 2013. Since the very beginning of operations, the tenant has struggled to meet the lease obligations and most recently requested waived rent through September 2013. Staff has negotiated an amendment to the lease that addresses City concerns and supports the tenant’s viability for success, and recommends the new terms to the Council for approval.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Mayor to execute an amendment to the lease agreement with Café Pica Deli, Inc. to adjust the monthly rent from $1,250 to $400 per month for the first twenty-four (24) months of the Initial Term; modify the “Percentage of Sales” revenue sharing provision in the agreement, as well as add flexibility to the hours of operation.

The choices made Nov 6 will determine the state's course for years. Both Prop 32, 30 levy significant taxes on Californians. The wounds that Prop 30, 32 are to heal have been self inflicted largely by elected officials in Sacramento who simply do not say no to any influential interest group (lobbyists) be they public employees, business, teachers or other unions or environmental groups. And now the Sacramento politicians and their lobbyists are using Prop 32, 30, 38 to blackmail us. Vote! Vote No on Prop 32, 30, 38. Save California for our children.

By the way Milan, since corporations and business interests spend 6 times more on political candidates than all the "unions" combined how would you address that? Since they are the same ones that bankrolled Prop 32 and are except themselves its hard to vote yes and simply hand over the keys to the castle to big oil, the Koch Bros, developers and other Super PAC's.
32 allows unions to spend money on political candidates if it's passed. It does give working class families that work for unions the option to contribute money that the union can them use to fund political candidates / causes. I'm voting Yes, to allow the workers a choice instead of having big unions grab the money without asking.
I don't trust Simmons. Grove and Wedel show promise but are somewhat unknown. Having said that, there is one candidate that clearly doesn't fit, Haskew. Haskew's primary claim to "experience" is 9 month service as a COUNCIL appointee. However, no one who knows City Hall best -- the WC employee's union and the WCPA -- endorses this "experience." They pretty much endorse anyone not named Haskew... Conversely, entities such as the Times ediorial staff who endorse Haskew, site 9 month COUNCIL APPOINTMENT as the overwhelming measure of "experience", while completely discounting things like Grove's 20+ years of gov't service... Put another way, Haskew promotes herself as an "independent thinker." Completely undermining this are her principle endorsers -- Regalia, Rainey, Abrams, Skrel, and Silva. This was a Council notorious for 5-0 votes as it pursued the IDIOTIC Regalia doctrine of 5 bodies / 1 brain, aka "COUNCIL UNITY." I'd prefer to see Council continue its current direction. Council members should apply independent, intelligent thought -- not put service to WC aside to prioritize each other. Grove and Wedel, in particular, are running on personal merit, not party affiliation. WC should elect and appoint on merit and not on a special-interest dominated buddy system. Maybe then, WC can reclaim some measure of respect for authority.
