Two Walnut Creek City Employee Groups Getting Pay Raises

City Council approves the salary package while negotiations continue with the largest employee group

Two employee groups at Walnut Creek City Hall will be getting pay raises.

The City Council last week voted 4-1 last week to approve the salary package for the professional and management employees, according to a story in the Contra Costa Times.

The three-year agreement provides the 80 employees in the two groups with 2.5 percent pay raises each year. It also requires the workers to pay 15 percent of their health care premiums, the Times reported.

The package will cost the city $1.5 million over the three years.

City Councilman Justin Wedel voted against the agreement, saying the city can't afford the raises when its faces potential budget deficits.

City officials continue to negotiate with Walnut Creek's largest employee group. The contract for these general employees expired in June, the Times reported.
