Walnut Creek Takes Corporation Yard Land Off The Market

Officials have reportedly discovered the city might not own all of the six-acre property

Walnut Creek officials have taken a six-acre property they put up for sale last fall off the market.

That's because officials have discovered the city may not own all the land where its corporation yard, recycling center and transportation center sit, according to a story in the Contra Costa Times.

The properties at 470-490 and 511 Lawrence Way could net the city as much as $16 million if they were sold or $1 million a year if leased, the Times reported.

However, city officials have discovered a small portion of the property that houses the recycling center was actually purchased by the now-defunct city Redevelopment Agency.

That agency was eliminated in 2012 by Gov. Jerry Brown and the state is now working to seize assets of those agencies statewide.

City officials told the Times they are checking to see if the property is sold if the city can keep the proceeds or if they would go the state.

Until that is resolved, the six-acre property will remain off the market.
