Movie Night Raises $$ For Northgate Pool

Watch 'Toy Story 3' under the stars, in the football stadium, as foundation raises money for a Northgate pool.

You can make a splash by going to see Toy Story 3 projected on a big screen at the Northgate High football stadium at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.

"It's Movie Night Under the Stars" sponsored by the Northgate Community Pride Foundation. Tickets at the door are $10. Kids under 10 are free.

The foundation scheduled the fund-raiser as it bursts from the blocks to raise an additional $750,000 for the new Northgate High pool. The fund-raising comes on top of $6.7 million approved earlier this year by the Mount Diablo Unified School District, coming from Measure C funds, for the pool. The pool is scheduled for completion by 2014, according to a piece in the Contra Costa Times.

“This is a project that was in the original plans for the school (in the 1970s), and we’re very excited to finally be able to make this dream a reality,” stated Ralph Austin, president of the foundation, in a news release. Austin said the foundation hopes to draw families from Northgate "feeder" schools — Foothill, Walnut Acres, Valle Verde and Bancroft — for Movie Night Under the Stars.

Plans call for a state-of-the-art, 40-meter pool with stadium seating and outdoor lighting, together with a practice gym for wrestling, cheer, dance and a dedicated sports medicine classroom.

“The Measure C funds made this project possible, and the vision and fundraising efforts of NCPF within our community will help creating a first-class facility for many future generations in the Northgate community,” said Northgate Principal John McMorris.
