New Garden Manager Named at Heather Farm

The Gardens at Heather Farm has named Brian A. Larsen, M.S. as the new Garden Manager beginning June 3.

Larsen comes from Portland, OR where he has worked with Portland Nursery and Friends of the Trees. 

Previously, he lived and studied in Nebraska where he attended the University of Nebraska, earned his degree in horticulture and worked for the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum.

His many responsibilities included plant propagation, greenhouse manager, collecting and grafting plants, integrated pest management, maintenance of display beds, long term plant research, retail and wholesale plant sales, installation of exhibits, online sales and customer service, supervision of volunteers (many were master gardeners), and public education.

Larsen's skills and commitment to the world of public gardens will greatly enrich The Gardens, operators said.

Other recent announcements at The Gardens included Renee Shenton as the new Facilities Operations Manager in charge of the wedding and meeting facility, and Mariel Valerio as Youth Education Manager, overseeing the Natural Science Classroom program. 

It is an exciting time for The Gardens and locals are encouraged to come and enjoy the beautiful garden and stop by to meet the new staff.
