Water Polo Playoffs: Las Lomas, Northgate Teams Win First Round Games

Second round matches are scheduled for Saturday

High school water polo teams from Walnut Creek have advanced into the second round of the North Coast Section playoffs after victories in the first round.

In the boys Division I competitionLas Lomas High easily defeated 13th ranked Heritage High, 17-4, on Thursday.

The fourth-seeded Knights now play against fifth-ranked Sir Frances Drake High at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at Acalanes High School in Lafayette.

Las Lomas is 15-9 this season while Sir Frances Drake is 19-8.

In the boys Division II competition, Northgate High is ranked fifth.

The Broncos had a first round bye and play their initial game against fourth-seeded Tamalpais High at 1 p.m. Saturday at Acalanes High.

Northgate is 14-12 on the season while Tamalpais is 17-9.

In the girls Division I tournamentLas Lomas High won their first round match, swamping 14th-ranked Newark Memorial High, 20-6, on Thursday.

The third-seeded Knights now play sixth-seeded Alhambra High at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Acalanes High.

Las Lomas is 17-8 this season while Alhambra is 18-7.

In the girls Division II competition, Northgate High is also in the second round after their first-round victory Wednesday against San Marin High.

The sixth-seeded Broncos, who are 14-13 on the season, will play third-ranked Sir Frances Drake High at noon Saturday at Miramonte High School in Orinda.
