Exchange Traded Funds are the best way to achieve a low cost, diversified invesetment portfolio. They are also more tax efficient than mutual funds and you can trade them just like you trade stocks.

The best ETF companies are IShares, Barclays and Invesco. That said, Schwab and Vanguard have the most cost efficient ETF's and they are often commission free to trade.
