Fun, Fabulous, Fierce: Calling All Walnut Creek Women

Women of Walnut Creek, are you up to being a triple threat this fall?

Tanya Strauss and Tina Dodd are inviting the women of Walnut Creek to push themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally in an eight-week "Fun-Fabulous-Fierce" women's wellness challenge.

The free event begins Sunday, Sept. 22 and for the next seven weeks thereafter, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Participants will meet at the Sports Basement, 1881 Ygnacio Valley Rd.

"The idea is to bring women together and give them a chance focus on themselves for an hour and a half a week," Strauss said. "We’ll partner up and the partners will work together to set and achieve three personal goals. It might be nutrition, relationships, work-life balance, whatever they feel is important. We want to encourage and build a community around fitness."

Dodd explained that the idea evolved while the two of them were running on the Canal Trial with their strollers recently.

"Tanya was telling me about this challenge she did when she lived in Seattle, and maybe we should bring it here. And I thought it was a brilliant idea," said Dodd, who works in fitness centers.

"This is open to anyone who wants to join us," Strauss said. "We're both members of the Mt. Diablo Mother’s Club, which is how we met, but it doesn’t really have anything to do with motherhood. It's not exclusive to any club or group, other than women."

Someday, she said, they might consider letting men join in, but for now "we have ideas that are focused around women."
